Total sales are more than 640,000, most of them in the U.S. market. Gold Wings were manufactured in Marysville, Ohio from 1980 until 2010, when motorcycle production there was halted. No Gold Wings were produced for the 2011 model year; and production resumed in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan in 2011 using tooling transported from the American factory.

The Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan includes a Honda Gold Wing GL1000 manufactured in 1974 as one of their 240 Landmarks of Japanese Automotive Technology. Through 2012, Honda GL models have appeared eighteen times in the Cycle World list of Ten Best bikes.

Over the course of its production history, the Gold Wing had many design changes. Beginning in 1975 with a 999 cc (61.0 cu in) flat-four engine, by 2001 this had grown to a 1,832 cc (111.8 cu in) flat-six. The 2012 model had anti-lock braking, cruise control, electrically-assisted reverse gear, an optional airbag, a fairing with heating and an adjustable windscreen, panniers and a trunk, a pillion backrest, satnav, and a six-speaker radio/audio system with MP3/iPod connectivity.

Goldwing F6B

The Honda Gold Wing is synonymous with luxury touring and has solidified itself in the genre over the past 40 years. Very few motorcycle companies can tout that kind of pedigree on one single motorcycle. The Gold Wing F6B is a variation on the original Gold Wing, it presents as a leaner, lighter, and more svelte touring motorcycle. The swept tail and hard luggage set emulate the styling found in traditional baggers.

The Gold Wing F6B is powered by a fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, 1832cc six-cylinder engine. The horizontally flat six produces around 100 hp with close to 108 ft-lb of torque. The result is remarkably smooth power and loads of torque to move the nearly 900 lbs motorcycle down the highway and interstate with fervor.

Additional features include cruise control, integrated luggage, low-profile windshield, adjustable suspension, comfortable seat and premium surround sound system. Upgrading to the Gold Wing F6B Deluxe, includes all of the above and a centerstand, passenger backrest, heated grips and self-cancelling turn signals.
